Veterans Job Fair

Join Swords to Plowshares and companies from all over the Bay Area Tuesday, September 9th in the Green Room of the San Francisco War Memorial located at 401 Van Ness Ave. across from City Hall from 10 am – 2 pm.

Swords to Plowshares is the only veterans’ rights non-profit in San Francisco, we provide comprehensive services; including housing, emergency and legal services, and employment and training. There will be opportunities to talk to employers first hand, fill out applications, submit your resumes, have on-site interviews, and connect with the VA and the Iraq Veteran Project.

2nd Annual Walk for Food Allergy
The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network presents the 2nd annual Walk for Food Allergy: Moving Toward A Cure in San Francisco at the Music Concourse Bandshell in Golden Gate Park on Saturday, September 20, 2008. Join others in support of FAAN’s mission to build public awareness and to increase education and research of food allergies. Free registration starts at 8:30 AM with the walk kicking off at 9:30 AM. The Walk with Rock - Access Adventure Walk A Thon

Access Adventure is a program of the Solano Land Trust and provides outdoor recreation and environmental education for people with disabilities and underserved youth, using innovative, wheelchair accessible horse drawn carriages.

8th Annual Lunafest
Thursday, September 18th is the 8th annual San Francisco LUNAFEST, a film festival featuring award-winning short films by, for, and about women. The film festival will be held at the Palace of Fine Arts on Thursday, September 18th at 6:00 pm. All proceeds from the event benefit the Breast Cancer Fund, a non-profit organization that works to identify environmental and preventable causes of the disease. Out of the Darkness Community Walk
Walk to prevent suicide. This year, 1 million Americans will make a suicide attempt and more than 30,000 people will die by suicide. Past Presidents Day
The Contra Costa County Horsemen's Association, a nonprofit association, is having an event to honor the past presidents of the association, and the present president, for their work and dedication that has made this horse association one of the oldest in the western United States. The Past Presidents Playday is on Sept. 27th and will be held at 3119 Grant St. in Concord. The playday begins at 9am-3pm with dinner from 4pm-6:30pm. Dinner tickets range from $5-$15. Parrot Adoption Fair
The Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue group is having an East Bay Adoption Fair on Sunday Sept 21st from 12-4pm in Hayward. There will be birds currently available for adoption at this event and you can talk to volunteers to find out more about the organization and how to adopt, foster, or otherwise help Mickaboo in it's work to provide a safe home for companion birds that need help. They currently have over 160 birds in foster homes looking for a loving new home to settle into. All their work is supported by donations and volunteer workers. Bay Area Buddy Walk
Parents Helping Parents' Silicon Valley Down Syndrome Network Announces the 4th Annual Bay Area Buddy Walk at Lake Cunningham Park in San Jose on October 4th.  Money raised last year went to support research and advocacy for people with Down syndrome as well as to local support programs.  The walk will begin at 11:00 am and be followed by a BBQ lunch.  Entertainment will include live bands, a silent auction, face painting, super slide and much more.  Everyone is welcome.  The cost is $15 for adults and $7 for children.  For more information please visit www.bayareabuddywalk.com or call (408) 727-5775 extension 151
